Roger's neutrophil counts are up from yesterday, his platelet counts are increasing on their own and his red blood cells are holding steady. He has not needed a transfusion of red blood cells throughout this transplant. That is truly
remarkable. He is feeling a little weak and slow, but otherwise not bad. When I came into the hospital to see him this morning, I had to catch up with him on his walk...making his 10th lap. His body is doing exactly what it is supposed to do, and doing it very well. The biggest challenge now is eating. He finds it very difficult. About the only thing he can get down are protein shakes and mandarin oranges. It's a vicious cycle. He needs to get calories in to make blood cells and make blood cells to improve his appetite so that it's easier to get the calories in. We want slow and steady progress on all counts now.
Yesterday Casey flew in from San Diego and Taylor from Vancouver B.C. When they strolled into Roger's hospital room, at first I didn't recognize them. Their faces looked familiar but were so out of context. I was so surprised, and then, true to form, I burst into tears. It's been 7 years since I've seen both my kids together. A little distraction from the hospital routine? You bet.
Roger is happy. I am ecstatic!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful children! So glad that some things are going well, kids visiting, Roger's progress coming along well. (Eat Roger, EAT!) And Mom's are supposed to cry, it's what we do! ;)

I am so proud of both of those guys. I thought you might want to know that Taylor leaked the news on Facebook... She never was one to hold on to a really awesome secret (one of the things we both share.) I am so glad all the news is good. Give everyone a kiss and hug from me.
ReplyDelete^^^@Betsy....I saw Taylor's post and emailed her right away and told her to be careful. We were keep so quiet about her and Casey flying out to Utah. Glad you didn't see the post, mom. It would have ruined to true surprise. I wish they had taken a picture of you/Roger when they first walked into the room. That would have been precious. I'm so glad you had a nice visit with them. We need to see each other more often.
